A Message from our pastor:

It's a rainy day in Iowa as I write this message.  The warmth of Spring will soon give way to the humid heat of summer.  The crops are planted and growing well, which is a reminder to us that life as a follower of Christ is marked by growth.  Just as the seed must be placed in the ground in order to germinate and grow, we are in the world, nurtured by the Spirit of God who lives within every true believer.  The seed does not make itself grow and produce a harvest, and neither do we.  It is only when we submit ourselves to the inner working of the Spirit of God that will make spiritual growth a reality in our lives.  Remember the words of Jesus,

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.  "He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.  "If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.

John 12:24-26 (NASB)

The purpose of this church is "To glorify God by making Christ known."  We can only fulfill this purpose as we learn to die to self and commit ourselves fully to growing in Christ that we might go out and make Him known in our community and beyond.

I pray that God will be glorified in each of us as we grow in Christ.

Two ways to live: The choice we all face

Finally, all the pieces of the puzzle have come together!  As of December 1, 2009, First Baptist Church is the sponsor church of Community Baptist Church in Marion, Iowa.  Pastor Darin Ulmer is leading the new congregation and is in the process of trying to sell his home in Cedar Falls and purchase another in Marion.  Please pray that God will meet the Ulmer family's needs soon.  Already, He has done many amazing things to bring about the birth of this church, and we are blessed to be a part of it all.
