First Baptist Church has a long history of serving Christ by serving the Dunkerton community. On August 26, 2016 we will be celebrating our 150 year anniversary, which is a testimony to God’s goodness to those who have called FBC their home throughout the years. Our motto is Making Christ Known, and as such we seek to edify one another as we join together in fellowship and worship of our Lord and Savior.
What to Expect
Sunday school Bible Study, 9:00 AM:
We have five main classes. For our "saints of life experience," John McIntosh brings a wealth of knowledge and leads an in-depth bible study in what we call “the east wing” of our sanctuary. Our young(er) adults are led by Dave Stout, and they meet in what would be the west wing of the sanctuary. The kids are broken into four age groups. Our nursery is led by Nancy Kaune, the younger kids, Paulette Titus teaches 5 year olds – 3rd grade (they meet in the Fellowship Hall), and Cal Smith leads the pre-teen class. Youth group participants typically join in wherever they are needed, either helping with the nursery kids are sitting in a class of their choice.
10:00 AM Worship Service: (Usually lasts until around 11:15-11:20)
- Not sure what to wear? Come as you are! We are pretty laid back. Although our pastor sometimes wears a suit and tie, you’ll also find him wearing khaki’s and an untucked shirt. Some folks dress up, but most come either in "business casual" or in jeans. We just want you to be comfortable.
- Are kids allowed in the service? Yes, of course they are! It’s up to you, but nursery is available during our worship service. We are currently working on developing a children's church for grade school kids (as of Jan 2016).
- What kind of music do you play for worship? We are blended. For most songs we use a contemporary recording and sing along, mixed with some of the classic hymns which so many love (either accompanied by CD or on the piano). Our focus isn’t so much on the music as much as it is on worshiping our Savior! We also have drums almost every Sunday, and we add in an acoustic guitar / bass guitar as available. The words are projected up on a screen, and we have a praise team which leads us in worship. Gayle Williamson heads up the worship team – assisted by Kent Sommerlot. You’ll also see that we have a couple of younger gals join in leading in worship – we believe it is important to get everyone involved with their talents and welcome the opportunity to mentor/disciple the next generation of the church.
- What is the pastor’s preaching style? Although Pastor David will often use the older version of the NIV, he will also reference other translations as needed (for clarity). He preaches either through a book of the bible exegetically, or will preach topically through a series of messages as the Lord leads. Pastor David will typically preach for 30-35 minutes.
